Retaining employees is something
that is done very deliberately at Bexson Construction Ltd..
Bexson Construction has designed an incentive program that
rewards each employee with a bonus at the end of every
fiscal year. This figure varies with each performance.
Bexson Construction uses a formula that includes how many
years the employee has been with the company; the job
description; and his or her job performance and attendance.
Dwaine Bexson believes "This is just another key: to
treat people right. Business owners are often greedy;
I have been treated that way and I don't want to treat
others that way. So I share the profits."
Bexson Construction Ltd. is
careful not to hold back employees if they want to pursue a
new career path. "If they have goals, we want to
help them achieve them. We have some who came up
through the ranks and are now teaching the carpentry trade
at a college level."
Through the Alberta Construction
Safety Association, Bexson Construction Ltd. staff completes
safety training at all levels. Each new hire goes
through a Construction Safety Training System, which
consists of 12 modules completed through a multimedia CD-ROM
interactive video computer system.
Through the Merit Contractors
Association, Bexson Construction Ltd. provides its
employees with coverage for dental, vision and medical
insurance.
Additionally, Bexson Construction
Ltd. offers and encourages apprenticeship programs for the
company's carpenters and iron workers.
